Instyle Photoshoot Pictures

Non-magazine versions of the images from the Instyle photoshoot have been added to the gallery! Thank you, Doris.

Edit – I’ve been finding Rachel Hurd-Wood Twitter accounts and MySpace profiles (and have been informed of them in the past). Please be warned that these are likely fake. They use old pictures (that are either candid photos or have had their removals requested by photographers and therefore are not on the site), copy from news sites like mine, and give out information that conflicts with news reports. Please be careful. I would hate for Rachel’s fans to be disappointed or have a bad impression of her because of pretenders.

Filming For “Tomorrow” Started

It appears filming for Tomorrow, When the War Began has already begun in Australia, according to this news article. I ordered the book last week and am excited to start reading it. I think this movie is a clever way to share the series with the rest of the world!

FILMING of the new Australian movie Tomorrow: When the War Began will begin in the Hunter today.

It will be shot in the region over six weeks and production will be based at Fox Studios.

The NSW Government provided a $100,000 grant through the Regional Film Fund to attract moviemakers to the Hunter.

Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay said it would be filmed around Raymond Terrace, Dungog and Luskintyre Bridge, and private Upper Hunter properties.

“It is estimated the production will create 200 jobs and generate approximately $60 million in economic activity for NSW with the Hunter region set to receive nearly $2 million,” she said.

“I am delighted the Hunter will feature prominently in the movie as it presents an opportunity to showcase some of the region’s charm and natural beauty to a national and potentially, an international audience.”

Solomon Kane Fantasy Fest 2009 Reviews

Solomon Kane was recently screened at the Fantasy Film Fest 09. More positive reviews are being released, including reviews praising Rachel (reviews regarding her latest films tend to not mention her). Click on the source links to read the full reviews.

“Rachel Hurd-Wood grows more beautiful every year, and she represents the path of righteousness that Solomon so desperately wants to follow.” Source: Hit Fix

“The supporting cast add colour too, with Rachel Hurd-Wood radiant as the young girl whom Solomon makes it his mission to save.” Source: IGN

Solomon Kane Trailer 2 Screen Captures

I posted a while ago about the official Solomon Kane trailer. I finally made screen captures of Rachel’s character for the gallery. The trailer used the same scenes with Rachel as the first and unofficial Comic-Con trailer (except for one scene). The captures from this trailer, however, are clearer!

Also, I should mention that the movie was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival recently. Michael J. Bassett reports that it was the largest turnout for a midnight screening ever and various positive reviews have been appearing on the internet. It looks like a fantastic film.

Solomon Kane was finally unveiled to a hugely enthusiastic crowd at the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.  It was, literally, screened at midnight last night but still the queue was all the around the block and more. The largest turnout for a midnight screening, I’m told.

More “Tomorrow” Quotes

More press announcements regarding Rachel’s casting Tomorrow, When the War Began were released! There is also a new photo accompanying the news. It appears a special photoshoot was done for the announcement. Apparently Rachel read the popular Australian book while she was in Australia filming Peter Pan. You can read more at Dark Horizons and Tomorrow-Movies.com. Rachel had this to say about her new role:

“Being from the UK, I had heard of the book, but it wasn’t until I was last in Australia filming Peter Pan, that I read it and I fell in love with the story and the characters.”

“I am thrilled to be filming a modern-day action film and to have the opportunity to work with Writer/Director Stuart Beattie and such an extraordinary Australian cast to bring one of my favourite characters from the book series to life.”

Many fans of the book (from what I’ve been reading, anyway) are wondering why a British actress was chosen over an Australian one. Many people have also expressed concern about her accent. Rachel has done a different accent before (an American accent in An American Haunting). The director of the movie was impressed with Rachel’s screen test:

“We initially set up screen tests in Los Angeles and London because of all the Aussies over there. The excitement that generated lead us to seeing more great actors and the moment I saw Rachel’s screen test I knew our search for Corrie was over.”

“Tomorrow” Confirmed

Of course the mention on Rachel’s agency page was probably good enough. Today, however, a story was released properly announcing Rachel’s role in Tomorrow, When the War Began. According to the article, Rachel read and loved the books when she was younger. As well, she will be in Australia for three weeks. The picture accompanying the article is captioned to to say it was taken last week. It looks Rachel dyed her hair red again! Thank you, Nadia.

FLAME-haired British actress Rachel Hurd-Wood has landed a starring role in the $20 million film of John Marsden’s best-selling novel Tomorrow When The War Began.

Shooting begins in the Hunter Valley tomorrow on the film of one of the most popular teen books in Australian literary history, selling two million copies here and in New Zealand.

Neighbours starlet Caitlin Stasey is  to play the lead role of Ellie Linton and Home And Away actor Lincoln Lewis last week announced he was leaving the soap after being cast in the film.

He plays Kevin Holmes, who with Ellie is part of a band of teenagers who wage guerrilla war on an invading power.

Hurd-Wood, who will be based in Sydney for three months, will play Kevin’s girlfriend Corrie Mackenzie.

“I read the (Tomorrow) books when I was younger and the script is fantastic,” she said.

Instyle UK Scans

As I mentioned in my last post, Rachel is in the new issue of Instyle UK. Annika was kind enough to scan the feature for the site. Please visit her website, Jennifer Conelly Fan! Thank you so much! There is a short interview in the magazine (to go with the beautiful pictures) with Rachel. She talks about Peter Pan, her costume for Dorian Gray, and how she lied about being allergic to alcohol so her peers would leave her alone when she was younger. I guess we can take that fact off the Facts page!
