Peter Pan and Perfume Clips
First of all, Mr. Bassett visited Cannes recently for a screening of Solomon Kane. Details are at his blog.
Secondly, I updated the video archive with new clips. There are four clips from Peter Pan, as well as a clip from the DVD special features of Perfume. These clips took forever to figure out how to make, so please do not post them on Youtube or on other sites. As well, I removed the clips from American Haunting because none of them had working audio. I will replace them soon! Let me know if there are problems viewing these clips.
Did you know that Anna Popplewell auditioned for the role of Wendy? Her brother Freddie Popplewell read so well with her at her audition that when Rachel got the part, he was cast as her brother.

Ben Barnes Talks Dorian Gray
ComingSoon.net recently interviewed Ben Barnes to promote his movie, Easy Virtue. He was also asked about his other project with Colin Firth, Dorian Gray. He mentions that the music for the film is currently being edited, and that the film has a Sweeney Todd element. You can read the entire interview here.
You have a tough sell with a teenage crowd. I think “Dorian Gray,” you have a better chance because it’s sort of got the “Sweeney Todd” element. Also, because it’s so much more adult and gory, I think that’s why you’ve got a better shot at getting the teenagers.
It’s a very tough challenge tonally, I think, but they’re just getting the music just right and they’re doing it right now, trimming it down a little bit, but it tested really well, so we’ll see. I hope it’s good. I’m most precious about that one out of all the films I’ve done. I want that one to work the most, because it’s such a great story. I don’t want to be accused of messing… We’ve changed a few things. We’ve added a character.
According to Michael J. Bassett, Solomon Kane has a UK distributor attached: Entertainment Film Distributors. As well, according to his Twitter, the movie is getting a “US release for sure, just be patient ”
Just so you guys know; Solomon Kane has a UK distributor attached – Entertainment Film Distributors. They’re the biggest indie distributor, having released Lord of the Rings and whole bunch of other huge films in the UK. This kind of material is right up their street and I know they’re really behind the movie. As we’ve only just delivered the movie we’re all waiting on them to decide on a release strategy, dates etc. But I think UK residents can certainly be confident that its going to get to your local multiplex sometime later in the year.
Harry from AICN reviewed Solomon Kane and it appears he enjoyed it a lot. I think this may be the first in-depth review of the film. There is only a mention of Rachel, but the review is an interesting read nonetheless! Click here to read the entire thing.
I’ll tell you how good [James Purefoy] was. Before the film, I told Dad – “I have always wanted Daniel Day Lewis to play SOLOMON KANE” – but by the end of the film, I was completely ecstatic that Purefoy had the role. He’s seriously great here.
And so is everyone else… Pete Postlethwaite, Alice Krige, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Max von Sydow (wow), Jason Flemyng, Mackenzie Crook… everyone. They all sell this story so well.
After a long fight with my screencapper, I finally made some proper screen captures from Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking, which came out in 2004, and replaced the old, low-quality captures that were already in the gallery. Rachel had a small part as Imogen, but her role was important and Rachel gave an excellent performance.
The Media section is back up. I think the American Haunting clips have no audio, so if you download any of them, let me know if they work. I think Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking arrives in the mail this week, which means I will have all of Rachel’s movies to make new and better clips from this summer! I also added new Peter Pan promotion videos, which are at the very end of the videos page.
