Solomon Kane DVD Special Features
Much thanks to Hugh for taking the time to make and send screen captures from the French Solomon Kane DVD. I appreciate it very much! Included are new poster art and captures from a behind-the-scenes featurette. Don’t read further if you want to avoid spoilers: I believe the last few screen captures in the set are from a scene I don’t remember in the movie. I think it may be from an alternate ending? Can anybody shed some light on that?
The DVD for Solomon Kane will be released in the UK tomorrow, June 28, according to Amazon.co.uk. The DVD for Dorian Gray will be released in North America on August 24. You can pre-order it at Amazon. I got hold of the special features on the UK DVD. Screen captures of Rachel being interviewed and b-roll footage of her can be found in the gallery.
Screen captures from Solomon Kane have been added to the gallery! Rachel’s role was slightly larger than it was in Dorian Gray. For a movie that didn’t get a wide release, it was actually very entertaining to watch and I’m surprised it isn’t getting more attention. I love historical adventures movies and Solomon Kane did the genre justice (and was also rather dark). Rachel’s brother, Patrick, also did a good job in the film!
To all you UK fans, Solomon Kane is being rleeased in the UK tomorrow! Let us know what you think of the movie if you see it. Edit - Thank you to Hugh for finding two more pictures from the movie! I also found one more and a larger version of a picture we already had.
Tomorrow, When the War Began will be released September 2, 2010 according to Tomorrow-Movies. Thank you, Summy.
Den of Geek has a decent review of Solomon Kane! The part mentioning Rachel is especially nice to hear:
Yet, the revelation for me was relative newcomer Rachel Hurd-Wood. A quick IMDB search reveals her to have only been in a few films (including a start in 2003’s Peter Pan and more recently Dorian Gray), yet there was something utterly compelling about her screen presence, conveying a mix of pure childish innocence, with an adult strength behind her eyes that is quite rare, especially as most on screen ‘British Rose’-type performances normally have me gritting my teeth – the same effect as nails down a blackboard.
Thank you, Laura. A new featurette/Making Of video for Solomon Kane can be viewed on YouTube right here. Rachel is very briefly interviewed, but it’s been a long time since we’ve had a video interview with her, hasn’t it? The movie will be released in February in the UK. As well, the DVD for Dorian Gray was released in the UK this week! I can’t get it, but if you live in the UK and get it, let me know if Rachel is any of the special features! Thanks. Enjoy the screen captures!
Finally found something new to post while doing my routine searches! A clip from Solomon Kane with Rachel and Patrick Hurd-Wood has been released. The clip is embedded below. I think you have to hover your mouse over it to select the clip. Pressing play will just play the trailer. Screen captures coming soon!
Thank you to Hugh who translated the nice comments about Rachel and about her character by the director and producer of Solomon Kane. The interview can be found on the official French website linked in the last post.
Michael J. Bassett about the cast of the Crowthorn family :
“Creating this family was really interesting. Peter Postlethwaite is the father, Alice Krige is the mother, Rachel Hurd Wood, Anthony Wilks & Patrick Hurd Wood are the children. They were really good together, as I expected. [...] Rachel has a lot of energy and a lot of humour ans this was really good for the character. She plays with her real brother so the relationship seems more true. Looking at them was a real happiness. She has got a lot of complicity with Pete. The family became more and more real every day and these personal links gave more relief to the drama. ”
Samuel Hadida about Meredith :
“The character of Meredith brings the innocence and the purity and because of her, Solomon takes the guns again. This cold man will become more humain because of her.”
