Tomorrow World Premiere Update
Hello, everyone. I just saw Rachel being interviewed at the Tomorrow premiere. There are some low-quality screen captures in the gallery until we get proper pictures. Some information from the red carpet:
- John Marsden, the author of the Tomorrow series, loved the movie.
- Rachel talked about The Last Furlong and says she used an Irish accent for the film.
- She cut her hair because her hair was ruined from dying it dark for The Last Furlong (it was short in the film as well).
- She auditioned for Tomorrow in London.
- She is only in Australia for the Sydney and Melbourne premieres.
Irish Film & Television Network report that the post-production of The Last Furlong has been postponed because of Rachel’s getting sick. I hope she is feel better now!
Post production of the Franco/Irish/Swedish co-production ‘The Last Furlong’ has been postponed as a result of lead actress Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan) falling ill and the completion of principal photography delayed.
Usually I am careful about so-called celebrity/actor Twitter accounts, but Harry Treadaway’s Twitter account and Formspring account look real to me. Many Rachel fans have been asking him about Rachel as it appears they are both filming in Ireland at the moment. Rachel also won’t add people she doesn’t know on Facebook and values her privacy (understandable!). She also, despite the numerous fake accounts that have appeared, doesn’t have Twitter. Here are some of Harry’s answers:
If I add Rachel on facebook, would she accept me?
Honestly, I don’t think so. She doesn’t add strangers, unless they’re her friends or people she knows. Plus, If you search for her name on FB, you won’t find her, her account is hidden.
why doesn’t rachel wood have twitter?
I don’t know, she doesn’t feel like she needs one, she tries so hard to take care of her privacy
Hows is Rachel Hurd-Wood?
she’s doing good. Fantastic clever girl GO MAE
Woah, I see you care a lot about Rachel, that’s awesome. She’s a brilliant human being and she’s not on Twitter. Off to bed now, take care.
My co-star happens 2 be a very talented n insanely beautiful girl: Rachel Hurd-Wood, both characters, mine and hers, are cursed in some way
Wikipedia has a synopsis of The Last Furlong. Please refrain from reading if you don’t like spoilers!
James Furlong is the last in a long line of Furlongs who were each blessed or cursed with a strange ability. From the moment of his violent birth, his life seems ill-fated, but it is unclear what kind of ability, if any, he possesses. Growing up in rural Ireland, his grandmother tells him about the strange quirks of his ancestors and the boy begins to experiment on himself, longing to discover some extraordinary, hidden power. But instead, his experiments lead to the death of his family’s livestock, followed swiftly by the loss of his father and his beloved grandmother. By the time he is ten years old, James is the sole survivor of the Furlong family.
James is sent to a reformatory, but does not adjust easily to life there. Having been home-schooled on the farm, he is not equipped with the necessary social skills or abilities on the sports-field, and his only friend is Liam, the only one who shows him any kindness. When James suffers a cruel attack by the other boys, a mysterious illness sweeps through the reformatory, taking hold of everyone except James. In the chaos that ensues, he finally begins to comprehend the dark, destructive nature of his powers, and at the first opportunity he flees into hiding.
Years later, he is discovered by a young woman, living out a lonely existence completely isolated from society. Mae has run away from hospital where she is being treated for cancer and comes across James’s cottage deep in the woods by chance. Initially, he is reluctant to have anything to do with her, fearful of harming her, but Mae has already resigned herself to her fate and is afraid of very little – certainly not of James with his gentle nature, and child-like innocence. Even when she learns his story, she is unafraid, and urges him to leave the cottage and his lonely life behind. Mae wants to savour all the time she has left in the world and hates to see someone so loving and compassionate isolated from it and denying himself everything that life has to offer.
They embark on a brief but passionate romance that leads James on a journey back to civilisation, and sets him on a collision course with Liam, the sole survivor from the reformatory. In the final climactic scenes, Liam confronts James with the destruction of his past, but through Mae, James also uncovers the full extent of his abilities through the powerful, redemptive nature of love.
I know this is already old news, but I found an article from Irish Film and Television that announces that The Last Furlong has begun filming. I am really excited for this project!
Cameras started to roll of the set of feature film, The Last Furlong on Monday, May 10th. The film, which stars Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan, Dorian Gray) and Harry Treadwell, will shoot on location in Wicklow and Meath for the next eight weeks.
The Last Furlong, a Franco/Irish/Swedish co-production, centres on a love between two teenagers. The Last Furlong is written by Nick Murphy (The Running Mate) and directed by Agnes Merlet (Dorothy Mills).
John Conroy (Leap Year) is the director of photography for the project which is being produced by James Flynn (Ondine) for Octagon, Jean-Luc Ormières (Priest Daens) for France’s Fidelité and Sean Wheelan (Centurion) for Sweden’s Filmgate Films. It is further supported by Eurimages.
The film’s budget is 6.6 millions euros. Post production will take in France, Sweden and Ireland and the film will receive a theatrical release in France and Ireland. France’s Wild Bunch has bought the worldwide distribution rights. The release date for the film is TBC.
According to various visitors and websites, The Last Furlong has officially begun production and will film for eight weeks in and around Dublin. O’Connor Design tweets: “We’re working on another film production to assess temporary structures, this time for an Octagon/Fidelité film called The Last Furlong.” CineElectric tweets: “Loading has begun this week for the feature film The Last Furlong shooting for 8 weeks.” Rachel’s agency profile doesn’t have the movie listed, but Harry Treadaway’s profile at United Agency says he will begin filming “shortly.” Lastly, Lucy commented:
I’ve heard Rachel’s already filming The Last Furlong in Dublin, I’ve also heard her look will be so different. Short and Dark hair [...] It would be so cool to see Rachel with dark hair. But… IMDb is not saying anything yet. So, its still just a rumor
This is very interesting! Again, if anyone has any more scraps of information, please comment!
